Valentine / SNARL Outside Science Education Program
Our summer Outdoor Science Education Program (OSEP) consists of a variety of weeklong classes offered June through July for students in grades 1-12, on topics ranging from photography and art, to natural history. Courses are taught by experienced outdoor educators and take place at either Valentine Camp or the Sierra Nevada Aquatic Research Lab (SNARL). Students who enroll should have a strong interest in science, love being in the outdoors, and be willing to participate in all aspects of these academic classes. Students are expected to behave in an appropriate, respectful, and safe manner. In an effort to allow as many students to enjoy all of our camps, priority will be given to students who have not previously attended specific camps. All classes are geared to next year’s grade level.

Scramblers Rock Climbing Camp
Since 2008, our popular and rewarding program has introduced children to the joys and wonders of rock climbing and bouldering in the Eastern Sierra in the summer. We create motivation to learn through use of "Milestones booklets" in which they check off climbing related skills as they learn and demonstrate new abilities. They are rewarded with buttons to show that they have reached next levels of achievement. Being in groups with their peers makes the learning and climbing more fun and engaging. We set up slack lines, rope swings, high lines, and more to get kids to trust climbing safety systems and maximize the fun factor of the week. We mix up the venues based on the weather conditions, but we climb in different areas to expose budding climbers to different rock types, mountain ambiance, and climbing related diversions.
We provide all the equipment your child will need to have a safe, enjoyable. and unforgettable climbing experience, including ropes, hardware, harnesses, helmets, climbing shoes, and belay devices. Each kid gets a chalk bag with chalk to use and keep, a cool SMG hat, and a certificate of participation. We encourage parents to come and help coach and belay!

ESAG Pathrunners
Dog agility is one of the fastest growing sports in the country and demands a keen interaction and teamwork between owner and dog. The team is required to negotiate an obstacle course – the handler’s responsibility is to direct the dog on a predetermined path, and it is the dog’s job to perform the obstacles presented in front of him.
This is a great opportunity for you and your dog to participate together in a fast-paced and fun activity. Learn the skills needed for you and your canine partner to become an agility team.
Where: Whitmore Recreation Area – Ballfield #2
When: May 5 – October 31
Times: Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from 8 AM to Noon
Cost: FREE – Three (3) one-on-one introductory training sessions. Lesson days and times will be determined by the instructor and the student.

Classes are taught by Lynne Almeida, Sherry Dodson, and Bobbie Eddy who also teach the Advanced Beginner class. We also offer coaching at the Intermediate and Competition levels.
