Airport Temporary Holding Facility (i.e., sprung structure)
In June 2010, the Town Council approved funding for a temporary holding facility (i.e., sprung structure) at the Mammoth Yosemite Airport. The purpose of this facility is to accommodate airplane passengers in a sheltered location until a permanent terminal facility is constructed. The number of airplane passengers will increase during the 2011-2012 winter season because the number of flights will increase from four to up to seven flights per day.
Planning Commission approved the Design Review Permit for this project on July 27th. Click here to review the Planning Commission staff report for this item. (PDF)
Project Plans and Description
The proposed facility would be similar to the sprung structures in Mammoth Lakes at Eagle Lodge and Fire Station 1, and would be located adjacent to the existing temporary terminal building and parking area. The structure would be approximately 30 feet x 75 feet and less than 19 feet tall. The structure will be an olive green color to blend with the surrounding environment and match adjacent existing airport buildings. The project also includes planting aspen trees to the south of the sprung structure to soften views from Highway 395.

Environmental Review
The California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) review for this project is an addendum to the existing EIR certified for the airport, which included a larger permanent terminal facility.
